Monchhichi was born in Japan in 1974. Designer Sekiguchi combined a soft plush monkey with the recognizable vinyl face of a thumb-sucking doll. Two variants were immediately produced: a boy and a girl. The cute monkeys quickly became a huge success in Japan and remain loved by children worldwide to this day.
